TEAM BUILDING WITH A DIFFERENCE
ICE Events recently had the pleasure of hosting 20 ladies for a fun team building exercise to celebrate secretary’s day. One thing was made abundantly clear to me…besides being a load of fun, team building does not have to be an expensive exercise and a fabulous fun filled day can be achieved on a very tight budget!
After allowing the ladies to split themselves into two groups we kicked started the day off with a fun ice-breaker. Within seconds they were singing and dancing and this immediately set the tone for the rest of the day. We then went straight into a revved up version of the egg and spoon race – relay style with a few twists thrown in for good measure.
To really get the adrenalin flowing we then gave each lady a turn in the parachute rocket. This truly cemented the idea that you can do anything you want to as most of the ladies were terrified to say the least about stepping into the rocket. After their first rocket experience, they begged us for more.
Now we all know the mechanical bull, but in true ICE Events fashion, we stepped it up a notch and once again the ladies surprised themselves with their team spirit, encouragement and sheer determination.
After a delicious break, we then introduced the ladies to marble soccer – this is must activity and we at ICE Events would love to introduce it to you and your team.
However, the highlight of the day was the pedal car event. Here the ladies had to really work together as we blind folded the driver!
Team building does not have to be a daunting and grueling experience, sometimes all you need to do is have some fun to rebuild and reconnect with one another and this was truly achieved with this event. Not only did the ladies (and the ICE Events team) have a fun day in the sun, but a sense of accomplishment and camaraderie was achieved by all – now that’s what Team Building is all about!
There are many reasons why I love planning weddings, and sometimes it’s even more special when I get to work with a very special couple. In the case of Isaiah and Thuli and dealt predominantly with the groom Isaiah and working with this man was an absolute pleasure.
He initially contacted ICE Events through a referral from a venue and after exchanging emails and finally settling on a quote, we eventually got to meet at the venue. This couple is based in Secunda and ICE Events is in Nelspruit. We did a full mock-up of his tables and everything was good to go. And then disaster struck. Isaiah phoned me in an absolute panic about six weeks before his wedding to tell me that the venue that they had booked and confirmed could no longer assist him. The poor man was desperate and the date of the wedding could not be changed.
No problem…ICE Events to the rescue. We found the bride and groom a fabulous venue and Isaiah and Thuli once again made the trip down to Nelspruit and after viewing the venue he signed on the dotted line…again.
The wedding was on the 28th of September 2013 and on the 27th, my ICE Events team and I arrived on mass and got to work. The bridal party flowers and custom made bridesmaid’s bags were driven down to Barberton where the ceremony was to be held and we got cracking on creating the perfect wedding décor in shades of purple and pink with silver accents.
Now not every wedding is without its hiccups and in this instance, the maid of honour got hold of my number. Because my clients were only driving down from Secunda on the Friday before the wedding, I sent the groom regular updates via mobile with pics etc. After notifying him that all was set up and that I would be back on site on the Saturday morning early to take delivery of the wedding cake and do final touches, I went home and collapsed on the couch. The first call from the maid of honour came through at 03:00 am! She just wanted to double check that I had done my job and that the venue was set up. After politely confirming that indeed everything was in order I went back to sleep. Alas, the next call came in at 04:00! She had forgotten to buy the ribbon and the balloons to decorate the bridal cars and please could I come now to Barberton and take over the job for her…
I still haven’t met the maid of honour, but she did send me a text on Saturday afternoon to let me know that she though the venue looked absolutely “stunning”. However, the highlight was when the groom told me that it "looked better than the Gupta wedding!". That's why I love what I do.

COMPLIMENTARY AND CLASHING COLOUR SCHEMES
One of the first questions we ask any potential client is “what is your colour scheme”? Who would have thought that colour could play such an important role in the overall look and feel of an event. It does. When it comes to companies, many of them request their corporate colours. Now if you have a logo that consists of one of two colours, it makes our lives a lot easier and we are able to incorporate them elegantly. Some clients have very busy logos with several colours and want them all incorporated in the design of the venue. We at ICE Events are specialists at making sure that your décor will not look like an exploding box of smarties. We always recommend a base colour i.e. black or white and then add different colours from there, always making sure that they complement each other.
One of the most dramatic colour schemes is black and white and when you add a touch of colour to that, it makes for something truly beautiful. Colour can be brought into the decor in various ways, from the linen napkins, tablecloths, tiebacks and flowers to the draping and lights.
Weddings are a lot easier, as many brides will mostly have a white palette and then add one or two accent colours. The trend over the last year has definitely been white, silver and purple. In the photo’s below you will see two weddings, both of which were white and silver, and yet, completely different. One tip we always give our bride’s is to try and not have the bridesmaids dressed in the same colour as the linen’s used on the tables…this does not make for good photographs. For example, if you are using soft silver/grey overlays on your tables, then dress your bridesmaids in gunmetal grey. Same colour, just a different hue and that way your wedding party won’t blend into the furniture.
